The Colgate women’s swimming and diving team continued to shine on Saturday, as Colgate participated in its first meet in nearly three weeks. This long period of rest had little effect on their record-breaking performance against Lehigh. First-year Erica Derlath broke two Lineberry Natatorium pool records as the Colgate women’s team trampled Lehigh, 209-79. The men’s team, on the other hand, was beaten by Lehigh, 162-136.

The Lady Raiders, who are the defending Patriot League Champions, are the favored to win the League Championship yet again, and no one can argue that prediction after Saturday’s performance. They dominated Lehigh by winning 14 of 16 events. Sophomore Caren Guyett was a four-time winner, while junior Caitlin Curran and first-year Emily Peck were triple winners for Colgate.

In her first ever meet at Lineberry Natatorium, Derlath starred in her home debut as she won the 1650 free-style by 26 seconds and established a new pool record. Derlath finished with a time of 17:09.14, breaking the former mark of 17:16.93 set by former Lehigh swimmer Lauren Ayers in 2001. Derlath’s split of 10:22.96 in the first 1,000 yards of the race also set the pool record.

“It was really exciting to break two pool records. I was also really happy to see that my hard work paid off. And to see my team on the sidelines cheering while I was swimming was really great,” Derlath said after her record-breaking day at the pool.

Both Colgate relays won their respective events as well. Sophomore Erin McGraw, Curran, Guyett and Peck teamed to win the 200 medley relay, while Guyett, Peck, and seniors Ashley Bottger and Emily Murphy swam the sixth fastest time in the 400 free relay winning the race with a 3:29.63.

Despite its defeat, the Colgate men’s team earned seven victories on Saturday afternoon, including two wins each from sophomores Devon Healy and Tucker Gniewek, and junior Joe McGovern. Healy had three personal bests against Lehigh as he won the 500 (4:49.52) and 1650 (16:39.64) and then placed second in the 200 IM (1:58.67). Healy was named the Patriot League Men’s Swimmer of the Week for his efforts. Gniewek won the 50 free and was part of the 200 medley team, McGovern won both diving events and first-year Costas Hadjipateras took the 200 fly.

Next, Colgate hosts Boston University tomorrow at 1 p.m.
