The New York Giants are, far and away, the best team in the NFL. Not only are they undefeated, they have, after Week 5, the best offense in the league and the third-best overall defense. Even after last year’s playoff, I was an Eli doubter, but his performance thus far has been impressive. Being a great quarterback, however, is made much easier when you have a back performing as well as Brandon Jacobs has. I can see the Giants finishing the regular season at 13-3 or 12-4 and earning a first-round bye in the post-season. However, my dark horse for the remainder of the season is the Jacksonville Jaguars. The Jags are currently 2-3, having lost their 3 games by a combined 16 points to teams with a combined 13-2 record. As the Jags’ schedule gets a little easier, their record will steadily improve, earning them a playoff berth.

Because of the craziness that is now the NFL season, the Super Bowl is up for the taking. The Giants should still be the Vegas favorites, as they are the reigning champions and still undefeated. However, my choice for the Super Bowl Champs is the Washington Redskins. After a horrible opener against the Giants, the Redskins are undefeated. In his third NFL season, Jason Campbell looks like a legitimate NFL quarterback, with a 102.2 QB rating and a remarkable zero interceptions thrown. The weapons around Campbell are also some of the best in the league, with Clinton Portis in the backfield, and a speedy receiving corps of Santana Moss and Antwaan Randel El. On the other side of the ball, the ‘Skins have the best set of corners in the league (Fred Smoot, Shawn Springs, and Carlos Rogers). And most importantly, their new Head Coach, Jim Zorn, is not only a great offensive coordinator, but has also successfully taken Bill Cowher’s place as the scariest white man in the NFL over 40.

The New York Football Giants are the best team in the NFL. Surprise? Somehow to some people it still is. For anyone who has been living under a rock for the past year, the Giants are still defending Super Bowl champions, and currently sit atop undoubtedly the NFL’s toughest division at 4-0. They may have not had the toughest schedule this far, but after a very good win week one against the Redskins, and two dominating wins over the Rams and Seahawks, the Giants deserve the top spot. The Giants are currently averaging the most points per game and giving up the fewest points per game in the league, and have arguably the deepest receiving corps in the league for a finally out-of-high-school-looking Eli Manning to utilize, as well as a scary looking three-headed monster running the ball in Jacobs, Ward and Bradshaw. Meanwhile, Steve Spagnuolo, the Giants defensive coordinator, is one of the best in the business, and has quickly made Giants’ fans forget about Osi umenyiora’s season-ending knee injury.

There are only two undefeated teams left in the NFL. So who’s the best? Tiatans or Giants? Neither. Giants’ opponents this season have a combined record of 5-13. With the exception of the Redskins, the Giant’s other three opponents have a combined one win between them. Titans’ opponents are even worse. So, I’m picking the Washington Redskins. Washington’s opponents are a combined 14-5 when not playing against the ‘Skins. After two consecutive quality NFC East road wins, Washington has won four straight and is playing phenomenal football. Clinton Portis had back to back 120+ yard rushing games, and Jason Campbell has managed the offense extremely well thus far. He is yet to be picked off this season, and has a QB Rating of just under 100. Washington is the premiere team.
