The Colgate field hockey team extended its winning and shut-out streak to three games as they rolled over Bryant University last Saturday at Tyler’s Field with a convincing 5-0 victory. During the course of the game, senior defender Maddie Watrobski earned the title of Colgate’s all-time assist leader by surpassing former teammate Natali Plesnarski ’08. Watrobski now has 22 career assists and at least seven games left in her collegiate career.

Colgate opened up the scoring game less than 10 minutes into the contest as sophomore forward Rebecca Anderson put away a rebounded shot from junior midfielder Mika Ella-Tang. Just four minutes later, senior co-captain Laura Flisnik went on to score the game’s second goal off a corner play set up by Watrobski. In the final two minutes of the first half, the Raiders scored two more goals: one from senior midfielder Lauren Carey, who was set up on a corner play by Watrobski and Ella-Tang, and another by Flisnik, her second of the game. This 94-second scoring tirade allowed Colgate to enter the halftime period with a 4-0 lead.

It would take almost 20 minutes into the second half before Colgate would score its final goal of the game. The sophomore duo of Victoria Foreman and Kate Hollnagel went on to score the first collegiate points of their careers as Hollnagel found Foreman with a pass inside the circle to finalize the scoring at 5-0.

Not only has Colgate’s solid play earned the Raiders big victories in their past three outings, but three individual players were tabbed with special recognitions due to their excellent play. The Patriot League named senior defender Kaley Zaharris the league’s Defense Player of the Week and junior goalkeeper Sarah Pedersen the Goalie of the Week. Also, Carey was listed on the Division-I Honor Roll by womensfieldhockey.com for her play, specifically her game-winning goal over 18th ranked Albany last Wednesday.

The Raiders’ record now stands at 6-4 overall as they head into Patriot League play this weekend as they take on Lehigh University tomorrow at 11 a.m. and non-conference foe University of Maine on Sunday at noon.

“Everyone around the league will be playing in their first Patriot League matchups of the season this coming weekend,” Watrobski explained. “Our goal is to make sure we are one of those three winning teams at the end of the weekend so as to show the rest of the league we are ready to make it back to the playoffs, and hopefully even host the league tournament.”
