Swimming and Diving Teams Compete at Lehigh

Over the weekend, both swimming and diving teams traveled to Bethlehem, Pennsylvania for their first Patriot League meets of the season. While the men competed in a dual meet against Lehigh, the women faced off against Lehigh and Navy in a double-dual meet.

The men traveled to Lehigh in search of their first victory of the young season. At the very least, Colgate wanted to try and build some momentum for its meet with Dartmouth later this week. Unfortunately, Colgate will have to wait at least a little bit longer for its first victory, as they fell to the Mountain Hawks by the final score of 160-71. Colgate managed to place first in the 400-yard free relay and the 1,000-yard freestyle. First-year Trevor Healy won the 1,000-yard freestyle for Colgate with a stellar time of 10:00.21. Other notable performances were turned in by senior Zach Whitman, who placed second in the 200-yard fly, and first-year Devon Healy, who finished second in the 200 IM with a time of 2:02.60. The loss, however, dropped Colgate to 0-4 on the season.

The women had mixed success against their Patriot League opponents. Colgate was able to defeat Lehigh by the final tally of 151-72, but it fell to Navy, 150-87. Junior Emily Murphy led the way for Colgate with a win in the 100-yard free, and first-year Erin McGraw also contributed to the Raider cause with a first-place finish in the 200-yard fly. In addition to those two victories, junior Beverly Walker took home the gold with a win in the 200-yard backstroke. First-year Caren Guyett also had a strong showing for Colgate, finishing second in both the 1000-yard and 500-yard free. The split over the weekend left the women with a 1-1 record in Patriot League play and a 2-3 overall record for the season.

Both the men’s and women’s teams will travel to Hanover, New Hampshire for out-of-conference meets with Dartmouth University on Sunday. The meets kick off at noon.
