Women Sweep Singles

This past weekend the women’s tennis team kept their winning ways alive by easily dispatching regional foe St. Bonaventure. In dominating fashion, the Raiders dispatched the home team in all six singles matches. Once again, the Raiders were led by the stellar performances of their underclassmen. First-year Elise Derose played outstanding in the second spot, outpacing her opponent by a score of 6-3, 6-2. Fellow classmate Samantha Inacker put on quite a performance in her 6-2, 6-4 victory in third singles. Not to be outdone, the sophomore contingency of Erin Fenn and Cameron Thaney performed exceptionally well. Fenn secured a hard fought three set battle in the fourth singles spot prevailing by a 2-6, 7-5, 6-3 score. Thaney had a much easier time with her opponent winning in straight sets, 6-0, 6-0. The Raiders also received strong performances from senior Jackie Couture who won at first singles and freshman Cameron Williams who easily dispatched her opponent, 6-0, 6-1 in the sixth singles spot.

Hoping to match the success of the women’s team, the men headed to Annapolis in search of their first Patriot League victory of the year. On this day, Navy proved too tough prevailing by a nail-biting 4-3 score. The Midshipmen opened the day by taking two of the three doubles matches to jump out to a quick 1-0 lead. On the singles side, the men battled valiantly but came up just short. Sophomore Martin MacIntyre did his part, securing a 6-0, 6-3 win in the second singles spot. In third singlesm senior captain Marshall Wheeler prevailed against Navy’s Adrian Lai by a score of 6-3, 6-4. First-year John Nogueras also performed solidly at fifth singles, winning in three sets, 4-6, 6-4, 7-5. The men will take a week off before returning to action on April 2 at Quinnipiac. The women will travel to Albany on Tuesday March 27th to compete against the Great Danes.
