Both the men’s and women’s tennis teams enjoyed an extremely successful weekend sweeping all of their matches. The women opened their winning weekend by securing a 6-1 victory over visiting Niagara on Saturday February 17th. The Raiders opened the match with a strong performance from first doubles duo of senior Jackie Couture and first-year Elise DeRose. The tandem came out on top by a score of 8-5 against Jennifer Cremieux and Shella Dargout. The underclassmen squad of first-year Samantha Inacker and sophomore Cameron Thaney secured a convincing 8-1 win to capture the doubles point for Colgate. On the singles sides, Colgate thoroughly dominated Niagara winning five of the six matches. The Raiders continued their winning ways against Hofstra University, sweeping the match 7-0. In their most dominating display of tennis in years the team swept all three doubles matches and did not relinquish a set in winning all six matches in singles. Even more striking, Inacker, Fenn, Thaney, and Stimmel did not surrender a single game winning each of their matches by a score of 6-0, 6-0. With the victory the team improved their record to 4-1.

Not to be upstaged, the men entered Sanford Fieldhouse determined to get their first win of the year. The men accomplished this mission by taking the pride out of Hofstra with a convincing 7-0 victory. On the day, the Raiders were led by the stellar player of seniors Chris Innes and Marshall Wheeler who secured an 8-3 victory at 1st doubles. Innes carried his success from his doubles victory into his first singles match by masterfully outpacing his opponent, Luka Djordjevic by a score of 6-4, 7-5. John Nogueras secured a key victory at 6th singles by outlasting Taj Alexander in a grueling 3 setter, 7-6, 4-6, 10-6. On Sunday the Raiders entertained Niagara University from the MAAC Conference. The Raiders swept all three doubles matches to secure the critical doubles point. On the single sides, sophomore Martin MacIntyre paced Colgate with a 6-1, 6-3 victory in the second spot. Wheeler also cruised to victory with a 6-3, 6-0 victory at third singles. With the victory Colgate moves to 2-4 on the year. The men’s team takes a week off before traveling to Binghamton on Saturday March 3rd. The following day the Raiders will play in their first Patriot League match up of the year at Army at 12 p.m. The women’s team will host Buffalo on Saturday March 2 at 3 p.m.
