Colgate Couture – Flat Feet

As I read Hamilton weather reports of unrelenting snow showers and sub-zero temperatures, it has become clear that at Colgate winter is afoot. This brings to mind an important question: What should you wear on your feet? Although store windows and magazine covers may taunt you with strappy sandals and open-toe slides, you must face the fact that you go to school on a permafrost-covered arctic tundra and won’t be able to slip into spring shoes any time soon. While this may seem as depressing as a gray Hamilton day, it’s actually a great excuse to invest in a pair of flat Italian-style stivali! Clicks of slouchy boots and clacks of riding boots echo through Rome’s streets because every Italian woman knows that the right pair of flat boots is essential to any wardrobe.

Riding boots are to Romans as UGGs are to Colgate students. Comfortable and classy, they are absolutely essential for everyday outfits. If you are going for a traditional equestrian look, horse around in Chanel’s calf and lambskin field boots. These black, round-toed boots are topped off by a tan cuff with buckle detailing and stamped with Chanel’s signature C’s. Wear field boots with a pair of tucked in skinny jeans or if you’re daring enough to go ultra-euro, try them with a tight pair of winter white trousers.

Frye’s Elizabeth field boot is the essence of equestrian; rugged yet refined. A cocoa-colored toe and cuff with a mustard-colored calf make for a warm color scheme, while brass ornaments and an ankle buckle add to the boots’ authentic equestrian appearance.

Our final field boot fad is truly off the chain. Stewart Weitzman’s black chain link boots have a silver chain that hangs just above the heel. This popular trend mimics the look of a spur on the back of a riding boot. Weitzman’s boots are boxier than many of this season’s riding boots, but this heavy look balances well with the chunky chain. Wear a pair of field boots while walking around campus, and everyone will whinny at your wonderful getup.

Field boots aren’t your only option for flats this season. Loeffler Randal’s Kit boot combines elegance and practicality. In tan or black these tall leather boots have a sleek look that is perfect for day or night. The combination of a round, narrow toe and a thin 1 1?4 inch wedge heel creates a smooth, fluid line. Seam detail wraps around the ankle and up the calf, giving these boots a touch of texture. Wear the Kit boot with leggings for a young but sophisticated look.

For a funky and fierce flat, look no further than Dolce Vita’s slouchy boot in bone. Super sexy with a one-inch kitten heel, these cream-colored boots slouch down to crinkle at the ankle and their light color will brighten up any dreary Hamilton day.

Looking to put a little color on your feet? Well, look no further than French Connection’s blue over-the-knee boots. With a cuff that slides over the knee, these blue boots are electric! The knee-cuff closes in the back with two small leather buttons and is highlighted with heavy stitch detailing. Wear these boots with dark, solid pants to make the color stand out and they’re sure to send a shock through your outfit.

Chic and comfortable, flat boots are by far the best way to dress your feet. So put away the platforms, say bye-bye to ballerina flats and step into a pair of stylish flat boots this season!
