Checking for Charity

On Saturday, January 2nd at 8:00 p.m., Sigma Chi and Beta Theta Pi Fraternities will hold the inaugural Huntsman Cup Hockey Game at Starr Rink. The charity hockey game will benefit the Huntsman Cancer Institute, a cancer research and treatment hospital in Salt Lake City, Utah.

“The Greek Community has always taken pride in their philanthropic events, and Sigma Chi and Beta Theta Pi feel that this event is a great way to work together to raise money for the Huntsman Cancer Institute,” Sigma Chi junior Andrew Bevan said.

The Hunstman Cancer Institute at the University of Utah works to understand cancer at new levels, molecular and genetic, in order to treat patients individually and better understand the causes of the disease. According to the institute, finding ways to treat cancer on an individual basis “is the present and future of cancer care, knowing that each cancer patient is a unique human being – not a statistic.”

The game will be followed by a catered party at Beta Theta Pi featuring the band Dangerboy.

“We hope that this game can become a Colgate tradition for our fraternities and we can continue to let the event grow,” Bevan said.
