Club Sports Update- Women’s Ultimate Frisbee and Volleyball

Over Halloween weekend, the Colgate ultimate frisbee team traveled to the Rochester Institute of Technology to compete in the annual Danse Macabre Halloween tournament. There, for the first time in Colgate’s history, the Colgate club fielded a women’s team, calling themselves “the Vibe”.

After a rough first game against Edinboro, Colgate settled down to play a team of first-years from Cornell. To start the game, senior Erin Dinsmoor completed a pass to classmate Eva Robinson for Colgate’s first point. Dinsmoor, the team captain, continued to lead the offense all game. Showing off its season’s worth of preparation, the Vibe rolled to a 13-2 victory.

In their toughest game of the tournament, Colgate proved that they could play with the best competition. Putting up seven points against a tough Pittsburgh team, the Vibe continued to gain confidence and improved throughout the day.

Behind the stellar play of the squad’s veterans, the Vibe mounted a comeback against the University of Vermont in the last game of the day. Down 6-7, Colgate made a name for itself, scoring twice in a row to win the game on universe point. During the game, one spectator from Albany commented that junior K.C. Rest’s layout catch was the greatest thing he’d ever seen in women’s ultimate.

Thanks to its strong play on Saturday, the Vibe earned the top seed and a first-round bye in Sunday’s B bracket. In its first game, Colgate faced a team of alumni from the University of Rochester. Again playing in a tight game, Colgate marched down the field to score the game-winner on universe point.

After falling to Ithaca College in the B bracket’s championship game, Colgate settled for second place in their first tournament ever. As the spring season begins next semester, the Vibe will immediately work to improve on this amazing start.
