DU, Theta Chi Lead IM Football Winners

After an exciting start to the season, Colgate intramural football entered the heart of the regular season this week with some teams emerging as the head-of-the-class in their leagues while others struggled to find their footing on the gridiron. The picture in League A became much clearer this week as the two top teams in the league, Sigma Chi and DU met on Monday afternoon. Despite its extremely athletic and veteran roster, Sigma Chi let one slip away this week, all but securing DU’s place at the top of the division. Sigma Chi spent over one-quarter of the game in the red zone, only to come away with seven points and three red zone turnovers caused by a stingy DU defense. In the other League A action on Monday, DKE had a simple time with Beta, avenging a loss last week at the hands of DU. DKE moved into a second-place tie with Sigma Chi in the league at 1-1, while Beta dropped to 0-2.Wednesday was highlighted by a couple lopsided affairs in League B, as the rich teams got richer and the poor teams got poorer. In the 4:30 start Theta Chi handedly defeated Bishop Don in a 49-0 whooping, propelling Theta Chi to a first-place tie in the league at 2-0.The other top team in the division, Staff Infection, shook off early-game jitters to have a relatively easy time with the Brothers in the 5:30 slot. Next week’s game to watch will no doubt be the match-up of Theta Chi and Staff Infection, each at 2-0 and on top of the League B standings. The eclectic group that is League C saw the Goldschlaggers continue their domination of the league this week, extending its record to 4-0. On Tuesday, the Goldschlaggers deflated an up-and-coming Phi Delt team, who pulled off a last-second victory over the Yo Mets last week. The Keystone Killers, who fell to the Yo Mets the day before, were no match for the “Schlaggers” on Wednesday, who used a swarming defense and a precise kicking game to handle the Keystone Killers with ease.Phi Tau momentary nabbed the second spot in League C though a forfeit against the Sushi Bluez on Tuesday. With two games still left to play in the regular season, teams like Phi Delt and the Yo Mets still have a shot at second place in the division.League D was plagued by forfeits this last week, and as of Wednesday night the Keystoners and Pooja shared first place at 2-0 each. URAGYIT earned its first victory of the season with a second-half explosion against the Regulators, who fell to the bottom of the division with an 0-3 record. With the football season winding down this coming week, more intramural sports opportunities are arriving on campus. Included in these events are soccer, ultimate frisbee and tennis. Contact the Intramural Sports Office in 210 Huntington or online at gocolgateraiders.com for more information.
