Women’s Soccer Ends West Coast Trip With Two Losses In Two Games

The Colgate’s women’s soccer team had a disappointing road trip to California this week, losing to Cal-Berkeley and Gaels of St. Mary 3-0 and 5-0 respectively. The Raiders return to Patriot league action this week as they play host to Bucknell at 7 p.m. on Saturday.

The Raiders played Cal-Berkeley close until the last two minutes when a 1-0 game slipped out of reach with two goals by Cal. Colgate was plagued by a lack of scoring opportunities as they were badly outshot 18-2. Colgate was able to keep it close behind the performance of Luisa Miller who had eight saves and held Cal in check until the end of the match.

In their game against Gaels of St. Mary the Raiders never made it interesting as they fell into a 3-0 hole by half time. Being outshot 17-9 the Raiders were handed their third defeat of the season as they fell to 3-3.

In more positive news for the team freshman Franny Iacuzzi was named Patriot League Women’s Soccer Rookie of the week. Iazuzzi has made her presence known at forward this year scoring six goals and had two assists in the Raider’s first 4 games. Iazuzzi has been able to find the net at key times for Colgate as she has scored the decisive goal in all three Raider victories.

On Saturday the Raiders will look stop their losing streak against 3-3 Bucknell. The game takes place at 7 p.m. at Colgate.
