Fall Jacket Fashion To Look And Feel Cozy

While checking the weather for this week, I noticed that there is one day where it is going to be 39 degrees Fahrenheit with possible snow showers. Since the weather at Colgate has been pretty mild lately, I forgot for a second that this is upstate New York, and the weather here is not predictable; it does not matter that it is technically still fall. There have been spring semesters where it has snowed at the end of April and beginning of May. Attending a college or university where weather is erratic can complicate things for the student who likes to stay on top of the latest trends. However, the one outerwear item that never goes out of style and is constantly being reinvented is the jacket. Many people tend to use the terms “jacket” and “coat” interchangeably, but there is actually a difference between them. While coats tend to be longer and thicker, jackets are lighter, waist length and better to use for transitional seasons such as autumn. Jackets come in such a wide variety of styles in terms of structures, textures, fabrics and lengths that the array of options can feel endless. To help clarify and narrow down your choices for this season, here are the most important styles of jackets to keep in mind.

Padded Jacket

The padded jacket is the perfect option for the high 30s to low 40s temperature range approaching us this season. Padded jackets have warm faux fur padding lining them with insulation and are made out of mainly synthetic fibers. This jacket style has been blowing up lately with a diversity of different colors, patterns, finishes and padding sizes flooding the market. The chevron pattern especially has been prominent on runways during the fall.

The Trucker Jacket

Trucker jackets are essentially denim jackets that are specifically structured to have two front pockets and a slim build. This jacket can come in a variety of different washes, distresses and colors. Plus, for the colder seasons, there are trucker jackets lined with fleece or wool. Recently, the oversized distressed trucker jacket or “boyfriend” jacket is a hot commodity.

Teddy Bear Jacket

The teddy bear jacket is exactly what it sounds like – an oversized fluffy, soft jacket made of faux fur that resembles a bear’s fur coat. If you have ever wanted to walk to class wrapped around in your blanket on a cold morning, this jacket is the closest you will get. However, if you are the type of person who is not into the entire faux fur all over look, but still want to have that cozy appearance, and try out a jacket with faux shearling details on the collar, sleeves, waist or sides.
