When the snow piles up too high and you can’t get to Flour & Salt for your favorite morning treat, this recipe is a perfect way to get your weekend breakfast fix! While everyone has their favorite bagel-stop from home, this recipe is a fun way to create your own doughy memories at Colgate.
Easy Everything Bagels
(Perfect for a weekend brunch!)
SERVINGS: 10 bagels
PREP TIME: 15 minutes
COOK TIME: 20-30 minutes
EASY TIPS: Slice the bagels before you freeze them. That way you can easily pop them into the toaster to defrost!
2 cups of all-purpose flour, plus a little extra for kneading
4 teaspoons baking powder
1¾ teaspoons salt
A pinch of pepper
1 egg for egg wash (optional)
Bagel seasoning of your choice (my favorite is everything)
Preheat the oven to 400 degrees.
Cover a baking sheet with aluminum foil.
In a large bowl, whisk the flour, baking powder, pepper and salt.
Add the greek yogurt. Can be subbed out for dairy-free yogurt if desired.
Using your hands, incorporate the yogurt into the flour.
Once combined, flour a surface and knead the dough into a ball.
Cut the dough into equal-sized balls. This will vary depending on how big or small you want your bagels to be.
Using a rolling pin (or any round and long object you can find around your kitchen), roll the dough out and shape your bagels before placing them onto the baking sheet.
Whisk the egg (if you choose to use it), and paint it onto the uncooked bagels. This will help the dough absorb some more flavor and give the bagels shiny outside once cooked.
Sprinkle the seasoning of your choice onto the uncooked bagels.
Bake for 20 minutes, covering with aluminum foil for the last 5-10 minutes to ensure the top doesn’t burn.
