Senior attack Isabel Kreitler nets four goals against the Bison. Her contribution helped the Raiders catch up to Bucknell in a tough fight.  Unfortunately, the Bison broke the tie with 23 seconds left in the game to beat the Raiders.

This past week, Colgate women’s lacrosse made a valiant effort to bounce back from last week’s loss to Navy, but fell just short of a win against the Bucknell Bison on Saturday in Lewisburg, Pennsylvania. The Raiders had a slow start in the first half, prompting a hard-fought second half for the Colgate women. With 20:40 left in the first half, the women were up with a promising 3-1 lead, scoring all three goals within a short span of only 3:14 minutes.

The Raiders’ scoring streak opened up with a goal from junior attack

Kristen Brigagliano. Junior midfielder Haley O’Hanlon was the next Raider to find the back of the net, with 21:40 left in the first half. Senior attack Isabel Kreitler secured the 3-1 lead of the first half, the first of four goals she would have in the game. As the rest of the first half came to a close, Bucknell retaliated with six consecutive goals against the Raiders to reach a 7-3 lead by the halftime whistle.

The Raiders came into the second half hungry for a comeback. Most of the second half was a gradual attempt to catch up to the Bison; however, it wasn’t until just 6:48 left in the second half that the women really cranked it up, trailing Bucknell 11-6. With a mere 49 seconds left, the Raiders had tied the Bison in a monumental comeback effort led by O’Hanlon, followed by Kreitler, who scored two goals in a row.

Sophomore midfielder Charlotte Redican’s second goal of the game came within just 13 seconds of Kreitler’s fourth goal of the game, leaving the Raiders trailing behind the Bison by only one goal. Bucknell suffered an own-goal with just 49 seconds left in the game, tying the game up with seconds to go. Within the few remaining seconds, Bucknell followed Colgate’s comeback with their last-minute, game-winning goal with 23 seconds left.

This was Kreitler’s sixth game in which she scored four goals, extending her goal and point streak to nine games, with 29 goals and 39 points within that window. O’Hanlon extended her point streak to six games, with two goals and an assist for three points, while Redican matched her career-high with two goals and a point streak of five games at Bucknell.

Senior midfielder Sarah Bowles had a stellar defensive performance, with a career-high five caused turnovers. First-year midfielder Noelle Patterson notched her fifth goal of the season, while Brigagliano moved her total goal tally to twelve. Sophomore Asil Asfour marked her third game in a row in which she made eight saves.

This game leaves the Colgate women’s lacrosse team with a 4-8 record, marking their fifth consecutive loss and giving them a 1-5 record in thePatriot League.

Looking forward, the Raiders will battle the Army West Point Black Knights this Wednesday at 5 p.m. They will be collecting black and neutral colored shoes and donations this week for the Salvation Army as part of their partnership with Lace Up With LAX.
