Living Writers: Marie Arana
On Thursday, Sept. 11 students will have the opportunity to hear a discussion led by award-winning writer, Marie Arana. This event is part of the English department’s ongoing Living Writers program. Arana’s presentation will take place in Persson Hall Auditorium from 4:30 p.m. to 5:30 p.m.
Lecture by Sculptor
Peter B. Jones
Peter B. Jones will be presenting an exhibition, lecture and reception on Thursday Sept. 11 regarding his five decade-long career as a clay sculptor. Jones specializes in Haudenosaunee themes. The presentation will be in Lawrence Hall 105 and will last from 4:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m.
Friday night film series
This week’s Friday Night Film Series will be taking place on the academic quad from 6 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. The event will begin with a barbeque, followed by an outdoor screening of the Academy Award-nominated documentary, “Freedom on My Mind.” Following the film there will be a special Q&A session with the film’s director, Connie Field. Be sure to bring a blanket or chair and some friends in order to get the most out of this great treat!
The Queens of Pure COuntry
On Saturday, Sept. 13 Josie Waverly’s “The Queens of Pure Country” will be featured at the Palace Theatre at 19 Utica Street. The live musical theatre performance includes vocal performances as well as authentic costumes. The production is from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. Tickets are 20 dollars when ordered ahead of time or 25 dollars at the door; the proceeds benefit Hamilton-area organizations. There will be another performance on Sunday, Sept. 14, from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m.
The Colgate Inn will be featuring a performance by musical guest, Tim Carr, on Tuesday, Sept. 16 from 7 to 9 p.m. Carr’s live act will feature original vocal and guitar compositions. Admission is free.
French club coffee hour
On Wednesday, Sept. 13 French Club Coffee Hour will be held in Lawrence 205 from 4:15 to 5:15 p.m. This event gives students the perfect opportunity to learn about French culture and what it is like to be a student at a French school. Participants are also encouraged to speak conversational French to one another. Likewise, French cuisine is also provided to further the cultural experience.
