For Thomas Wobby, a senior from Naperville, Ill., Colgate has not been solely about academics but also about having a positive effect on the community and people around him. Though Wobby, a Biology major and Chinese minor who is on the pre-medical track, has certainly had his hands full over the past three years at Colgate, he has not allowed this to deter him from engaging himself in as many extracurricular activities as possible.
Among his roles in various organizations around campus, Wobby is the founder and president of The Secular Association of Skeptical Students (SASS), Vice President of Brothers, one of the leaders of the Interfaith House, a member of Konosioni Senior Honor Society, a board member of Broad Street Association and an active participant in All Beliefs Community. In addition to this, he has the added responsibility of being a sports medicine assistant for the Colgate football team.
Wobby believes that what he will miss most from his Colgate experience will be the people, rather than institutions and actitivites in which he has been involved.
“I am going to miss the communities of people I have been involved with here,” Wobby said. “My time spent between the Interfaith Community and Brothers has shaped my Colgate experience.”
Though he has an idea of what he wants to do after his graduation, much is yet to be decided. He knows that he would like to take a gap year to travel and work before he continues down the path towards a career, but what exactly he would like to do is less concrete.
After doing field research in Costa Rica, he has considered forgoing medical school and instead pursuing ecology for graduate school.
“My two potential paths are medical school or a biology PhD program,” Wobby said.
Wobby believes that the relationships he has made are just as, if not more so, valuable than the actual experiences he has had. The close-knit nature of the Colgate community is definitely an aspect he feels sets the school apart and is something which Wobby has appreciated greatly.
“The relationships I have built here will stay with me for the rest of my life.” Wobby said.
