Last weekend, the Raiders, who were viciously fighting for a playoff berth, lost a tight matchup against the Lafayette Leopards, losing 4-3. Realizing they needed to pick up a victory, the Raiders came out with a sense of urgency and got on the board early. First-year midfielder Katie Sullivan scored her second goal of the season, beating the goalie short-side and putting the Raiders up early 1-0.
Senior attack Halle Biggar added to the Raiders lead with her team-leading 11th goal in the 20th minute to go up 2-0. The Raiders big lead, however, was short-lived as the Leopards cut the lead before halftime. Heading into the intermission, the Raiders were up 2-1 and were hoping they could hold onto their one-goal lead. The Leopards, however, came roaring out of halftime and scored within the first three minutes of the second half to tie up the game at two. Junior Amanda DiDomizio, who was strong all first half, struggled through the second half as the Leopards took their first lead of the game with just under 20 minutes left. The Leopards defense held strong for the remainder of the second half, and with just under two minutes left, added another goal to extend their lead to 4-2.
With little time left, the Raiders went to work and junior midfielder Rebecca Libutti found first-year attack Whitney Jones who scored to cut the lead to 4-3. The Raiders goal, however, was too little too late as the Leopards took home the victory and clinched a berth in the Patriot League Tournament. The Raiders tough season continued, but a bright spot included the seven saves that DiDomizio made in goal against a tough
Leopard offense. This weekend, the Raiders finish up their season as they travel to Holy Cross
Suday afternoon, November 3.
