The Colgate women’s ice hockey team notched a 2-2 tie against Dartmouth on Sunday afternoon, marking Colgate’s second tie of the season after tying Princeton 3-3 at the beginning of the year. Colgate was awarded the tie thanks to goals by sophomore forward Melissa Kueber and senior forward Jenna Klynstra. Starting in the net for the Raiders was, once again, first-year guard Ashlynne Rando, who managed to nab 27 saves on the night.
Dartmouth saw major contributions from Sally Komarek and Reagan Fischer, both of whom scored for the Big Green. Fischer’s goal came at the 11:47 mark in the second period, marking her fifth goal of the season. Dartmouth goalkeeper Lindsay Holdcroft stopped 23 shots, including a potentially game-winning shot by Colgate junior forward Rachel Walsh in third period.
The first goal came halfway through the first period when the Raiders won a face-off at the far circle. Klynstra was able to find her line-mate, sophomore forward Casey Dockus, who shot the puck right back to Klynstra. Klynstra then wrapped around the back of the net and notch the first goal for Colgate, putting the Raiders up 1-0.
With 1:11 remaining in the first period, the Big Green tied up the game for the first time, when Komarek received the puck from Dartmouth’s Margaux Sharp, and was able to get a quick shot off. Colgate’s Rando managed to make the initial save but was unable to stop the rebound shot as the puck slid in, tying the game
Kueber scored the Raiders’ next during the second period. Raider junior forward Stephanie Giannopoulos utilized a Dartmouth line-change to get the puck to Kueber, who managed to quickly get a shot off before the Dartmouth goalie could grab the save.
After Colgate regained the lead in the second period, Dartmouth again managed to come back with a equalizing goal. Fischer notched a score 11:47 into the second period, when she fired a shot in past Rando.
Neither team was able to see a score in both the final period as well as the overtime periods, ending the game in a tie 2-2.
The Raiders will again take to the ice this coming weekend with two road games against St. Lawrence and Clarkson. Colgate faces St. Lawrence on Friday evening at 7 p.m., and skates against Clarkson
Saturday at 3 p.m.
