13 Winter Date Ideas

1. Have a Christmas/winter movie night

There’s no better time to “Netflix and chill” than during the chilliest time of the year. Slip into your pajamas, pour out some snacks, find your coziest blankets, and sip on hot chocolate as y’all binge watch holiday classics like Home Alone and The Polar Express or even the winter-themed delight, Frozen.

2. Build a snowman

Speaking of Frozen, if y’all are willing to brave the cold, bring out your inner child and make a snowman together. Then, finish it off with a snowball fight. The more people you gather, the more fun you’ll have!

3.  Go ice skating

If you’re looking for something to do that can be both indoor and outdoor, then why not go ice skating? Whether you’re a pro or a newbie, ice skating is a fun activity to try.

4. Make a gingerbread house

This classic winter activity will be even better with your boo by your side. You can even bring out your competitive side and see who can make the best house. The best part? Getting to eat it at the end!

5.  Make s’mores

So maybe there’s a rule somewhere about lighting fires on campus, but there are plenty of kitchens available to make these tasty treats at! You could even catch a s’mores station at Frank when they have one.

6. Cook dinner together

You can cook dinner any time of the year, but it’s even better when you can warm up from the heat of the oven. Pull out those recipes you’ve been dying to try and make them together. You’ll have a lot of fun cooking and get a meal out of it too!

7. Decorate Holiday Cookies together

After cooking a delicious meal for you and your special someone, why not try an equally yummy activity and bake some holiday cookies. Put those icing skills to work as you make tasty little snowmen and snowflakes. Enjoy with a mug of hot chocolate!

8. Have a winter photoshoot

Put those few hours of sunlight we get to use with a cute winter photoshoot. Perfect for the ‘gram!

9. Go sledding

While the hills on campus are usually frustrating for Colgate students, in the wintertime they can double as excellent sledding spots. I especially recommend the hill by the library!

10. Play a board/card game

If you and your S.O. don’t want to bother with the nasty weather, then playing some board games or card games is the perfect solution. Play some Jenga or spice things up with some strip poker! You’ll sure be in for a night of fun.

11. Paint together

Channel your inner Bob Ross and paint (or draw) some stunning winter landscapes. Make the experience better with some drinks and snacks!

12. Attend a Colgate Hockey Game

If sports are your thing then show some school spirit and attend a hockey game together or some other sporting event. Spend some time together all while cheering on the Raiders!

13. Rent a Cabin

If you have the cash to splash, might as well go all out and rent a cozy cabin. Cuddle up by the fireplace and put on Mariah Carey’s Christmas album in the background. You’ll be belting out the lyrics to “All I Want for Christmas Is You” in no time!
