Golf Impresses at Lehigh Invitational

On Saturday and Sunday, October 22 and 23, the Colgate men’s golf team continued its fantastic season with yet another impressive performance, placing second overall in the Lehigh Invitational, held in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania. The Raiders tied with Siena College for runner-up in the competitive tournament, though Seton Hall ran away with the victory by a long shot. Though the Raiders posted a decent +30 total as a team across the two rounds, the Pirates of Seton Hall posted a +10, blowing away the rest of the competition. The good news for the Raiders, however, is that they posted scores substantially better than four Patriot League rivals.

As a team, Colgate was very consistent, posting nearly identical total scores on both days. The Raiders came out strong, shooting a +14 302 on day one, before tapering off ever so slightly en route to a +16 304 on day 2. Several golfers played extremely well on an individual level at the tournament, contributing to the overall success of the team.

Senior captain Ben Jessen and first-year standout Brian McCormick led the Raiders in scoring, both posting 151 total strokes. Jessen was extremely consistent, firing a first-round 76 followed by a second-round 75. McCormick stumbled a bit out of the gate with a 77, but followed with a solid 74 in the second round. When the dust settled, Jessen and McCormick’s scores held up for ninth place overall. Junior assistant captain Will Delano and first-year Michael Grayson finished just behind their teammates, posting scores of 152 on the weekend. Delano posted two solid scores of 75 and 77 in rounds one and two, respectively. Grayson fired a fantastic 74 in the first round before slipping to a second-round 78.
