This weekend at the Barge, The Shangri-La’s, a self-proclaimed astro-funk techno band, was slated to play. However, at 8:00 p.m., the advertised show-time, the band did not seem ready at all. A few warm-up songs were played, but abruptly cut off mid song. The crowd was made up of parents, aunts, uncles, and a few friends of the band. Only three students (my friends and I) showed up to support the local music at the Barge on Saturday night.
After approximately two songs, the band took an unannounced “pizza break” and was not seen for the next 20minutes. The concert felt like a jam session for the band or a chance to show off to their parents and friends what they had been playing in the garage. With a little more polish and a bigger student turn out, The Shangri-La’s may be able to put on a better show.
