This past weekend, the Colgate men’s tennis team built on its previous momentum against Hamilton, winning a tight match against Lehigh, 4-3. The team closed out its regular season, however, with a loss to Marist, 7-0. The women’s team was successful in their match against Marist, closing out its regular season with a 5-2 victory. The win brings the final record for the women’s team to 8-6 overall, while the men’s team is now 9-7.

Against Lehigh, the Colgate ment earned wins at the second, third, and fourth positions. Senior John Nogueras defeated his opponent in three sets, 6-7, 6-3, 6-3. Junior Phil Bernasek was victorious in two sets, 6-4, 7-6. In fourth singles, first-year Alec Goldstein defeated his opponent in three sets, 7-6, 3-6, 6-4.

In doubles play, senior duo Nogueras and Michael Yassky defeated Troy List and Collin Laffey, 8-4. In third doubles, first-years Goldstein and Harry Jewett downed Lehigh’s Matt Savran and Ryan Krueger, 8-6.

The Raiders could not hang onto their

momentum, however, and they hit a roadblock against Marist.

Goldstein and Jewett claimed the lone Colgate win, defeating Loic Sessagesimi and Joris Van Eck pretty handily, 8-3. Yassky pushed Marist’s Christian Coley to the limit. They played three sets, but ultimately Yassky fell short, 6-7, 7-6, 7-6.

The women won the doubles point after winning the second and third matches. Senior Samantha Inacker and junior Stephanie Bender won their doubles match, 8-4. In singles play, Inacker led the Raiders with a win at the second position, defeating Joana Sun, 6-3, 6-1. Fellow senior Jackie Stimmel followed with a decisive, 6-2, 6-2, victory over her opponent. To guarantee the Colgate victory, sophomore Stephanie Brown and first-year Meridith Rock outlasted their opponents in the fourth and fifth spots, respectively.

The women’s squad will be back in action this weekend, April 16-18, as Colgate hosts the Patriot League Championships. The men’s team will return to action the following weekend, April 23-25, when they travel to Lewisburg, Pa. for the men’s Patriot League Championships at Bucknell.
