This past weekend, the Colgate men’s rowing team competed at the Seneca Cup against Hobart. The team had won the race the past six years, but disappointed this year, as Colgate was not able to keep its title as Seneca Cup champions. The Raiders competed in a varsity and JV 8, as well as a varsity and novice 4.
Rowing for Colgate in the varsity 8 were senior Marc Cassone, juniors James Clinton, Matt Woodrow and Sam Walker,
sophomore Rob Bickhart and first-years Owen Myers and Stephen Dickinson, with first-year Rob Hendrickson as coxswain. They crossed the finish line with a time of 6:48.45, 18 seconds behind the Hobart Varsity boat.
The JV boat, consisting of Cassone, Bickhart, Jones, sophomore Frederick Petty, with first-years Pierre Gross, Spencer Brooks, Owen Myers and Dickinson as well as Hendrickson, finished second to Hobart with a time of 6:55.04.
Both the Varsity 4 and the novice 4 finished second to Hobart as well. The Varsity 4 consisted of Cassone, Clinton, Woodrow and junior Sam Myers, with Hendrickson as coxswain. The novice 4 boat was manned by Owen Myers, Gross, Brooks and Dickinson with Hendrickson as coxswain a fourth time.
The men’s team will be competing again at the Dad Vail Regatta on May 6-8 in Philadelphia, PA.
