Daily Sports Update 12/5

Terrance Mitchell scored 18 of his 24 points in the second half as Maine came back from a 10-point deficit to defeat Colgate 76-66 in a non-conference game on Thursday.

Mitchell made 6-of-8 three-pointers and 6-of-7 free throws off the bench for the Black Bears (3-3).

The Raiders (0-7) jumped out to a 26-16 lead with 7:40 remaining in the first half after a layup from Ben Jonson. Maine responded with a 15-6 run to close the half, as Sean McNally made a layup and two free throws to cut Colgate’s lead to just 32-31 going into halftime.

Colgate began the second half with a 10-2 run, punctuated by a two-pointer from Jonson. Maine responded with a 12-3 run that tied the game at 45 after Mitchell hit two free throws.

The Raiders then jumped out to a 51-47 lead, but Mitchell and Sean McNally then combined to score Maine’s 15 points, giving the Black Bears a 62-57 advantage. The Raiders would not come closer than five points for the remainder of the game.

Maine connected on 7-of-16 three-pointers on the night, while Colgate made just 3-of-20 shots from beyond the arc. The Black Bears went 27-of-35 from the free throw line.

Sean McNally had 20 points and 9 rebounds for the Black Bears. Yaw Gyawu and Ben Jonson each had 17 points and 5 rebounds for Colgate.
