Field Hockey Eliminated From Postseason Contention
The field hockey team lost 4-2 to Bucknell last Saturday at Tyler’s Field, mathematically eliminating Colgate from obtaining a Patriot League Tournament berth. This marks the first time since 2006 that Colgate has missed the postseason.
Bucknell’s Austin Thomas and Christine Weiss scored goals in the first half at 19:37 and 28:28 respectively, giving the Bison a 2-0 lead. Colgate, however, got on the board with 13 seconds remaining before halftime when junior Laura Denenga scored off a corner, with assists from seniors Katelyn Nerbonne and Mika Ella-Tang. Leading 2-1, the Bison scored the game-winning goal at 43:18. Nerbonne, one of Colgate’s best field hockey players historically, answered back 30 seconds later off an assist from Denenga, cutting the Bison lead to 3-2. Weiss would put the final nail in the coffin with a goal off a corner at 54:49.
Bucknell’s Corrine Raczek garnered three assists, while Morgan Kauffman dished two Bison helpers. The Bison outshot Colgate 23-14 overall but only 12-11 in shots on goal.
Colgate will end the season by facing Lafayette on Senior Day. Game time is Saturday at 11 a.m. on Tyler’s Field.
