Disney Magic: Track Sets Four School Records in Florida
This past week, the Colgate women’s track and field team traveled to Florida for a spring break training trip, which culminated with the Walt Disney World Invitational at Lake Buena Vista. The selection of runners who competed set four new school records.
The three-day event was highlighted by senior Curry Knox’s run in the 100-meter hurdles. Knox’s time of 14.58 seconds gave her a third-place finish and the fastest ECAC qualifying race in Colgate history. Knox continued her historic performance at the Invitational by breaking her own school record time in the 200-meter dash with a time of 24.71 seconds. Knox, previously on the women’s soccer team, has continued to shine in her senior year, and has established herself as one of the best runners in Colgate history.
Knox also competed with senior Ashley Mecone, junior Ashley Niness and sophomore Michele Miller in the 4×100 and 4×200 relays. In both events, the Colgate relay team finished second overall and set new school records. The Raiders performance in the 4×200 relay was particularly impressive as their time of 1:42.95 broke the previous 2006 record by almost three seconds.
Next on the schedule, the women’s track and field team hopes to run away from the competition at the Ithaca Invitational on Saturday.
