Sports Highlight – Sarah Pederson ’10
Sport: Field Hockey
Hometown: State College, PA
Major: Biology
Why Sarah? She was named Patriot League Goaltender of the Week for her shutouts against Bryant, No. 18 Albany, and St. Francis. Also, she only let up one goal each against Maine and Lehigh.
You had a 175-minute scoreless stretch. What has been the key to your success in the net during this stretch?
“The key to this success has been the team’s defense working together as a whole. It’s not a reflection of how good I am but how good the team is.”
This is the first time you have garnered the Patriot League Goalie of the Week accolade. What does this honor mean to you?
“It is a big honor to be selected, but I’d rather win games than awards.”
How were you able to upset No. 18 Albany?
“We beat Albany because every single player played their best. We had great team play and everyone brought a tremendous amount of energy to the field. We definately headed into the game with the underdog mentality, and we had nothing to lose and everything to gain.”
The team started off the season slow, but has won five of its last six. How has the team been able to turn it around?
“I think Coach Foto found us a formation that really worked for us. We now have Kaley playing as a sweeper, which allows everyone else to be more offensive.”
How do you think the team will do in Patriot League play this year?
It will be a tough, as the intensity always goes up when you enter interleague play, but I believe the team will rise to the challenge. I see the team making a big impact in the Patriot League this year.
