Golf Gets Best Finish of Spring Season at Lafayette
The golf team polished off a great weekend of play at the Lafayette Invitational with a well-rounded eight-place performance (306-312-618). It is the Raiders’ highest finish since the spring season. The Raiders played at the par-72 Center Valley Country Club against 24 other five-man teams. Patriot League power Bucknell won the event with an 18-over-par score of 594. Colgate senior Ricky Hayes once again led the way for Colgate with an eight-over-par score of 152, finishing 21st. Junior Montek Mayal kept pace with Hayes by shooting nine-over-par. First-year Neil Thompson and sophomore David Ake accrued scores of 12-over-par and 13-over-par, and New Jersey native and junior Joe Vogler rounded out Colgate’s day with a 25-over-par effort. Colgate finished the first day of competition in a three-way tie for ninth place, but it managed to get the seventh best score on Sunday to end up in eighth. The Raiders will now go to another Patriot League foe’s home golf course when they head to Annapolis for the Navy Spring Invitational.
