After fighting with the Bucknell Bison in its lone game of the weekend, the Raider volleyball team lost the match in three games.

Bucknell led the first game from start to finish, winning 30-18. Colgate immediately responded by building a 21-14 lead in the second game, but the Bison went on an 11-4 run to tie it at 25. The Raiders then appeared poised to even the match by going on a 4-1 run. Bucknell won six of the last seven points, however, saving four game points in doing so, to win 32-30. The teams battled to a virtual draw in the third game, trading the lead five times. Colgate finally went up 25-22, but the Bison came right back to tie. Finally, Bucknell won two consecutive points to turn a 29-29 tie into a 31-29 win to end the match.

Despite the loss, it was a record-breaking night for first-year setter Meghan Fanta. She had 37 assists, giving her 1,105 for the season. That breaks Tory Rodgers’ team record for assists by a first-year. Rodgers had 1,084 in 1996.

Head Coach Ryan Baker praised Fanta’s outstanding season. “Setters are like quarterbacks in football, and Meghan’s really learned the position well,” Baker said. “Even as a first-year, she can make plays other setters can’t.”

Sophomore Katrina Zawojski once again led the Raider offense with 11 kills. Senior Marybeth Maziarz, junior Erin Kanetzke, and first-year Kelsea Loveless each added eight kills. Sophomore Jackie Adlam had 14 digs and now stands just four away from breaking her own team record of 531 digs in a season.

Bucknell’s Jenna Henderson led all players with 21 kills while adding nine digs.

The Raiders are now 13-14 overall, 5-7 in league play, and Lafayette’s win over Lehigh on Friday officially eliminated the Raiders from postseason contention. Colgate finishes the season with a weekend trip to play Navy and American. The Eagles, 12-0 going into the weekend, will be looking to finish an unbeaten league campaign.
