Raider Women Continue Inconsistency
After losing two of three games in the last two weeks and three of their last four overall, it seems that a proverbial blister is forming on the heels of the women’s soccer team. The rough week puts their Patriot League record at 1-3, with losses to Lehigh and Navy in addition to the league opening defeat at the hands of Bucknell. Their lone victory came over Lafayette on October 8th.
On Friday October 6th, the Raiders faced off against anticipated favorites Lehigh in Bethlehem, PA and mustered only one goal to the Mountain Hawks’ three. Lehigh netted a goal less than three minutes into play, but senior Kelly Niland connected with senior Kelly Kuss to even the score 25 minutes later. At the very end of the first half, Lehigh once again beat junior goalie Carly Sousa to take the lead for good. They added an insurance goal shortly into the second half to ice the victory.
Two days later the Raiders got their first Patriot League win at Lafayette by scoring three unanswered second half goals to win 3-2. The Leopards scored two goals on headers in the opening stanza, but did not reach the back of the net again for the remainder of the game. Ten minutes into the second half, and facing a two-goal deficit, the Raider offense came alive, scoring three goals in 12 minutes to flip the score. Junior Jaime Dennison scored twice, book-ending a goal by junior Franny Iacuzzi.
On Saturday, the Raiders faced the undefeated and nationally ranked Navy squad, but the Midshipmen took the wind out of Colgate’s sails and shut them out, steered by Brigitte Fox’s hat trick in the first twenty minutes of the game and a final goal with less than five minutes left to play to make the final 4-0.
Colgate looks to get past the aforementioned proverbial blister during their two games at home this weekend against Holy Cross on Friday and Army on Sunday.
