Fashion Column 2019: Upcoming Trend Report
With the end of winter break and a week of class under our belts, it is time to get back into the academic mindset. However, that does not mean we have to completely lose track of trends for the upcoming spring season. Thinking about warmer weather is the only thing getting me through this -10 degrees Fahrenheit weather, and even though spring is about two months away, it is never too early to start taking note of the rising trends for the season. For all you fashionistas and fashion enthusiasts, here is a quick rundown of the latest styles to keep your eye on:
Snake Print
Snake print made a surprising comeback late last year. I started noticing an overload of snake print on dresses, skirts, bodysuits, purses and boots in different fast fashion and high-end retail stores such as Zara, Forever 21, H&M, Anthropologie, Free People, Fashion Nova and Nordstrom. When buying or styling pieces that are snake print, it is important to remember that it is a bold pattern design. This means that less is more, so it should be used sparingly. Snake print pieces can be used to add some edge to any seemingly bland outfit.
Acrylic and Resin Earrings
Acrylic and resin earrings are great stylish alternatives to typical metal and crystal jewelry. These earrings are pretty affordable, good for ears that are sensitive to mixed metals, lightweight and can make any outfit stand out. Tortoiseshell is a very common pattern. Clear lucite, which is a denser, water-resistant acrylic plastic is another common style that can give your outfit a polished look. The other benefit of these earrings is that they can come in a variety of different geometric shapes and thicknesses, such as chunky hoops or thin octagon-shaped dangle earrings.
Modern Abstract / Line Art Face Art
This trend includes items such as earrings, t-shirts, sweatshirts and dresses with a particular art style on them that abstractly depicts faces through the use of connected lines. While this trend might not have an official name, people are definitely buying and wearing it now. It is often a minimalist design of a face or multiple faces because it does not include small details and only uses one line and color for the entire face. While my description of this trend is a little vague, you will understand once you see it for yourself in stores this season.
