13 Beats of the Week: Songs for the Season
1. “Breakers” by Local Natives
The perfect song for a calming fall playlist, Local Natives bring an interesting style to any music collection.
2. “Minnesota, WI” by Bon Iver
Wisconsin – the state where this band originated and the inspiration of this song – is widely regarded as one of the coldest states in the winter months, and “Minnesota, WI” is bound to give you chills.
3. “Tiger Mountain Peasant Song” by Fleet Foxes
Fleet Foxes is a bit below Bon Iver on the winter blues scale so, if you’re looking for a mellower version of Bon Iver, look no further.
4. “Fitzpleasure” by alt-J
Though it’s hard to understand alt-J’s songs, this song is pretty mellow and is perfect for a fall playlist.
5. “Cherry Wine” by Hozier
While we all anxiously await Hozier’s next album, he continues to provide inspiration for our winter/fall playlist with this song.
6. “Yellow” by Coldplay
We’re a bit past the yellowing of the leaves for the fall, but this song is still a fantastic jam for your playlist.
7. “Apartment” by Young the Giant
You’ll never want to leave your apartment or dorm when the dead of winter hits, so prepare to steel yourself from the cold with this song.
8. “Slow it Down” by The Lumineers
Remember to slow down and enjoy this weather while you still can. When the bitter cold days come, everyone will be rushing to their classes and nobody will be walking slowly.
9. “Winter Song” by The Head and the Heart
This song is great for the peak of your winter blues. “Winter Song” will remind you that spring and summer will come soon but to enjoy the snow while you can.
10. “No Way Down” by The Shins
A personal favorite song of mine, The Shins provide a great tune with some interesting lyrics. This is another great song for the fall.
11. “Lack of Color” by Death Cab for Cutie
When the snow comes, we’ll all be desperate for the warm days of summer and the green trees and grass; until then, we can enjoy the last bit of fall.
12. “Changing of the Seasons” by Two Door Cinema Cub
The seasons are changing and winter will soon be upon us. In the meantime we can mentally prepare ourselves with this great song!
13. “Winter Wonderland” by Michael Bublé
Now that Halloween is over, it’s okay to start playing Christmas music right? With the snow comes ski season and winter holidays! So be prepared for a great season and some very cold weather.
