In The Light: Susan Price
Prior to coming to Colgate, senior Susan Price already had an interest in international relations. Her time at Colgate has served to increase this passion. She is majoring in International Relations and minoring in Film and Media Studies.
Price has taken her passion for international relations outside of the classroom twice. Price interned the summer after her sophomore year at the United States Department of State at the embassy in Bangkok, Thailand for 10 weeks. Her time there provided her with knowledge of how an embassy functions.
“It was interesting to see how the state department responded to the military coup that was happening while I was there,” Price said.
She also studied abroad in Geneva, Switzerland last spring. During her time there, she worked with a human rights group. She also went to the United Nations two to three times a week and received her own UN badge. She had the opportunity to sit in on the UN Human Rights Council twice,
presenting at one of these councils.
In addition to her time spent abroad, Price is involved in a diverse array of extracurricular activities. She works as an Admissions Senior Fellow, plays on the Club Rugby team, participates on the Senate for the Student Government Association and is a member of Gamma Phi Beta sorority. In addition, she is a part of the Volunteer Income Tax Assistance Program, where she volunteers do taxes for low income families in the Hamilton area.
Price plans to go to graduate school after graduation and has applied to several fellowship programs. She wants to work for Foreign Service or U.S. Aid, a development agency aimed at providing economic and humanitarian assistance to countries in need.
“I think for the long term, working for the U.S. government abroad is what I’m
focused on,” Price said.
Price knows that she will miss her friends the most after graduation. She has
valued her time at Colgate because of the proximity to the amazing people she has met. Originally from the large city of Dallas, Texas, Price has appreciated getting to know so many incredible people.
“I can’t go five minutes without seeing someone I know, which I love,” Price said.
It is clear that her friendships and activities have prepared Price for life after college. She is ready to leave her mark on the world, just as she has
done at Colgate.
