The Raiders traveled to Washington D.C. this past weekend to take on the American University Eagles and managed to bring back a 1-0 victory. With the win, Colgate clinched the outright Patriot League title and home-field advantage when they host the Patriot League postseason tournament this

coming weekend.

Senior captain Caroline Brawner scored the lone goal of the game on a penalty kick earned with only 17 minutes left in the second half. Brawner’s 73rd minute tally was just enough for the Raiders to take home the victory over the Eagles in a game that the Raiders seemed to dominate but could not convert their chances.

The Raiders against the Eagles were aggressive on offense, taking 19 shots compared to the 11 that the Eagles were able to record. The major advantage the Raiders had over the Eagles seemed to be corner kick attempts, a category that Raiders dominated with 18 compared to the four the Eagles had. In the second half alone, the Raiders were awarded a

staggering 10 corner kick attempts.

Despite the offensive domination the Raiders had, they still required a strong game from their goalie, which is exactly what sophomore Brenna Mason gave Colgate. Her six saves in the game pushed her season total up to 81. The shutout also marked Mason’s ninth shutout of the season, placing her in the top three of the Colgate record books.

This Raiders team has been unbelievably successful this season and as the regular season came to a close, many players were recognized for their efforts. Sophomore forward Sarah Coy was named Patriot League Offensive Player of the Year for her strong performance in League play. Coy recorded seven goals during Patriot League play and turned her game to a new level for the latter half of the regular season. In addition to Coy, Mason received honors as Goalkeeper of the Year, while head coach Kathy Brawn was named Coach of the Year. Brawn led the Raiders to a 13-2-2 mark and a 7-1-1 League record while leading

Colgate to becoming nationally ranked.

In addition to these major awards, Brawner, Coy and Mason were all named to the First-Team Patriot League squad. The Raiders also saw three members nominated to the Second-Team Patriot League squad in senior defender Chelsea Roche, junior midfielder Jenna Panepinto and junior defender Lexi Panepinto. Two forwards in junior Catherine Williams and first-year Eliza Doll were awarded with Third-Team honors.

While the Raiders are excited about their regular season accomplishments, they know they have a lot to still accomplish. This weekend, the Raiders will host the Patriot League postseason tournament where the winner will receive the League’s bid to the NCAA Tournament. As the top seed, the Raiders will face the winner of a quarterfinal matchup. The semifinal game will be at Beyer-Small ’76 Field Friday, and if the Raiders win that game, they will compete in the Championship on Sunday. The Raiders are seeking their 13th Patriot League title and their seventh NCAA

Tournament appearance.
