Cameron Costa, a senior from Long Island, N.Y., is majoring in Peace and Conflict Studies and minoring in Writing and Rhetoric. She has been involved with the Student Government Association (SGA) during all four years of her Colgate experience, citing it as the highlight of her time here.

“Working with my peers and our administrators to make Hamilton the best home possible is one of my most worthwhile activities on campus,” Costa said.

In addition to being part of SGA, Costa is also the Vice President of the Student Global AIDS Campaign, the new intern for the Sexual Climate Advisory Committee, and a member of Gamma Phi Beta

Not only does Costa take advantage of all the opportunities available to her within the confines of the town of Hamilton, but she also studied abroad in Geneva, Switzerland in fall 2013. Calling it the most educational experience of her Colgate career so far, Costa explained how the professor and the students who traveled with her truly made the trip meaningful.

“We traveled to 18 different countries, give or take, and we challenged everything we’ve ever been taught about our world, how it works and how to solve its problems,” she said.

When Costa was just a young high school student, she visited Colgate more than one time. However, her most memorable trip was her last, which incidentally occurred the Sunday after Spring Party Weekend. She explained how the campus was in complete disarray. However, despite the disarray, hailing and cloudy weather, Costa still loved Colgate.

“Colgate had an energy that even a rainy Spring Party Weekend couldn’t dampen, and I figured, ‘If I love it like this, I’ll probably love it most of the time,’” she said.

She knows now that she was right about that. Returning to campus for her Senior year, Costa explained how she has already been having a blast reacquainting with her fellow classmates and friends. There are even some people that she hasn’t seen in a year due to their staggered abroad schedules, and the first few weeks of school are a great time to catch up with old friends.

“We have all changed so much, and we have incredible energy going into senior year,” Costa said.

Although it is early in the year to have specific plans for after graduation, she is considering applying to law school, or perhaps even pursuing a career in international news and journalism. There’s a chance she could even do both.
