In an Oct. 16 email sent by Vice President for Equity and Inclusion Renee Madison, Provost and Dean of the Faculty Lesleigh Cushing and Vice President and Dean of the College Paul McLoughlin Colgate University announced that it will conduct a Higher Education Data Sharing (HEDS) Consortium Diversity and Equity Campus Climate Survey.
The University previously administered a similar Diversity, Equity and Inclusion (DEI) Climate Survey in Spring 2021. These surveys help identify areas within DEI where Colgate is making progress and where there are still areas of improvement.
“The results of that [Spring 2021] survey helped to inform initiatives of the Third-Century Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Plan (DEI Plan),” the email read.
Colgate’s 2019 DEI Plan called for regular surveying of faculty, staff and students to continually evaluate the University’s progress. The email emphasized the survey’s importance, urging members of the community to participate.
“We know that you receive a number of surveys each year, but we ask that you make time — 10 to 15 minutes — to participate in this important effort,” the email read.
The survey was sent out Oct. 17 to the community in an email from Associate Provost for Institutional Analysis and University Registrar Neil Albert. The message detailed how to effectively participate in the survey, also explaining that the survey is not intended to investigate specific individuals or incidents.
“We are committed to ensuring an inclusive, engaging and supportive environment for our students, faculty, staff and administrators, and your participation in this survey will help us in our work to serve all members of the Colgate University campus,” Albert wrote.
