At the top of the forthcoming Peter’s Glen, new pavement appeared at the site of the future plaza that is set to replace the traffic circle outside Frank Dining Hall. As a result, Conant Road — which connects Alumni Road to Curtis Hall, Drake Hall, Bryan Complex and Conant House — was closed Oct. 22 and Oct. 23 to thru traffic.
Instead of a roundabout, vehicles traveling between Alumni Road and Conant Road now follow a single path between the future plaza and Frank Dining Hall. The new design better connects the plaza, which will feature benches and greenery, with the rest of Peter’s Glen so that pedestrians traversing from Middle Campus will only have to cross one roadway instead of two.
Project Manager Katy Jacobs notified the Colgate University community of the construction Oct. 21, which also reduced parts of Alumni Road to a single lane. The work was expected to prevent access to roads and parking lots adjacent to Conant and Alumni roads for the day.
Jacobs also warned that parking at or near Curtis Hall, Drake Hall, Bryan Complex or Conant House would not be possible, that the Frank Dining Hall roadway would be closed to vehicular traffic and that the Spear House parking lot entrance would be closed after 1 p.m. The University suggested that those affected by the paving utilize the Colgate Shuttle.
“Campus shuttle service will continue on its typical schedule all day with a stop at the upper entrance of Frank Dining Hall, and we encourage this option for those having to park further away as a result of the paving work,” Jacobs wrote.
The paving was expected to be finished within a single work day, with all paved areas to be reopened to typical use by 6 p.m. on Oct. 22. However, an update email sent by Jacobs on Oct. 22 announced that the paving had not yet been completed.
“We appreciate your patience and cooperation as we complete the paving for the Peter’s Glen project” Jacobs wrote.
Paving was completed the following day with all affected areas reopened to regular use as of Wednesday, Oct. 23.
