This past week the Raiders’ struggles continued. After a close loss to the Boston University Terriers on the road, the Raiders returned home and fell to the Navy Midshipmen in the annual Pink Breast Cancer Awareness and National Girls and Women in Sports Game.

Against the Terriers, the Raiders put up one of their best efforts yet this season but could not pull it together in the end. Colgate was challenged by one of the better teams in the league, and while the Raiders kept it close throughout, the Terriers managed to pull through. ‘Gate was led in scoring by senior guard Lauryn Kobiela who put up a team-high 20 points. Kobiela shot just above 50 percent from the field and was a big reason the Raiders trailed by just three at half.

Kobiela’s four assists helped facilitate the ball inside to junior forward Carole Harris, who also had a big game for the Raiders. Harris put up 14 points despite missing more shots than normal. She was also a big player on the boards, as she grabbed four offensive rebounds and 14 total for the game.

Sophomore guard Randyll Butler was a key addition for the Raiders off the bench. Her nine points and 10 rebounds in 28 minutes of action gave the team a much-needed spark plug to help get the offense going.

While the Raiders held an advantage in rebounds 49-37, the Terriers shot more efficiently and had three scorers in double-digits. The Terriers shot a scorching 56 percent from the field in the second half while the Raiders could only muster 37 percent. At the end of the day, the Terriers held onto their advantage and took the matchup 72-68.

Later in the week, the Raiders returned home where they hosted the top team in the league in the Navy Midshipmen for their annual Pink Game. The Midshipmen flexed their muscle in a big win over the Raiders by the score of 76-47.

The Raiders did a phenomenal job of staying with Navy in the first half. With just seven minutes remaining in the first half, the Raiders were all tied up with the Midshipmen thanks to an unbelievable effort from junior Mariah Jones. The Midshipmen did not look back as their 19-2 stretch to close out the first half put necessary distance between them and the Raiders.

From that point on, the Raiders did their best to get back into the matchup but the strong defense from Navy held them back. The Raiders shot just 30 percent from the field on the game, while allowing the Midshipmen to shoot a strong 48 percent. The Midshipmen also grabbed a huge advantage on the glass, picking up 51 rebounds compared to the Raiders’ 29.

Harris delived a standout performance for the Raiders in the matchup. She pitched in with 17 points on 50 percent shooting. She also lead the team with six rebounds and logged a team-high 32 minutes. Also in double digits was Jones, who added 16 points.The Raiders look to buck the recent trend this weekend as they travel to Loyola to face the Hounds this Sunday at 1 p.m..
