This past weekend, the Raiders hit the road to try and continue their nation-leading winning streak. However, they could not stay hot forever and dropped two key matchups at Brown and at No. 13 Yale.

Facing the Brown Bears in Providence on Friday, the Raiders came out and looked to take advantage of a team that was low in the ECAC standings. The Bears were determined, however, to buck the Raiders recent trend and pick up a much-needed victory. Taking advantage of a couple odd-man rushes in the first period, the Bears jumped out to a 2-0 lead. From there, the Bears would not look back, as their first-year goalie Tyler Steel made 32 big saves against a ferocious Raiders attack.

The Raiders got themselves on the board early in the second period with sophomore forward Tylor Spink picking up his 50th point of his career. Picking up assists from junior defenseman Spiro Goulakos and sophomore forward Mike Borkowski just a minute into the second frame, the Raiders hoped to get back in the game.

Brown responded strongly with two goals just 1:30 apart to extend their lead to 4-1. Jealous of his brother, however, sophomore forward Tyson Spink got on the board six minutes into the second period off assists from brother Tylor and sophomore defenseman Ryan Johnston. The goal cut the Bears lead to 4-2.

The Raiders, however, could not hold off what was a Bears offense on a mission as Brown tallied their third of the period to extend their lead to 5-2. Going into the third period, the Raiders knew that they would need to bring even more offense to try and get past Steel.

Steel managed to stop all 11 shots that the Raiders got on him in the third

period and, with frustration built up, Tylor Spink picked up a 10 minute misconduct penalty with just two minutes remaining after a skirmish with senior defenseman

Jake Goldberg.

The Raiders fell 5-2, and looked to see a better result the next night as they took on the defending national champions, the Yale Bulldogs. In a first period with little stoppage time, the Raiders held their own and did not back down. Senior goalie Eric Mihalik saw his first action in goal since mid-December and made 14 stops in the first period. Mihalik, however, did allow one Bulldogs goal in each of the first

two periods.

The Raiders offense, again, could not seem to break through the difficult Bulldogs goalkeeping. First-year Alex Lyon got the start in goal for the Bulldogs and made 30 big saves on the night. The frustrations added up for the Raiders as sophomore Kyle Baun picked up a head-butting major and a game misconduct late in the second period.

After the Bulldogs goal in the third period to put them up 3-0, the Raiders finally got themselves on the board with their top power play line. Goulakos recorded the goal with assists from Borkowski and Tyson Spink, who extended his points streak to eight straight games.

A physical third period ensued with three more game misconducts given out, with one of those going to first-year defenseman Brett Corkey. The Bulldogs tallied one more to add to their lead and took home the

victory 4-1.

Despite the two losses, the Raiders look to finish in the top half of the league and rebound this weekend after two tough games. The Raiders will host rival No. 9 Cornell Big Red at Starr Rink at 7 p.m. on Saturday, February 8.
