Cupid Makes an Apperance at Thirteen Concert
Love was in the air in the O’Connor Campus Center TV room last Thursday night, February 13, when the Colgate Thirteen performed their annual Valentine’s Day concert. For those who missed out, the evening was filled with love songs, laughs and lots of flying candy. Before the show even started, the room was packed with students and there were whispers that Cupid was going to make a surprise visit sometime during the event.
All the men singing were dressed sharply in pink attire, some even sported glittering tuxedos. The a capella group sang songs mostly about falling in love, the joys of being in love, the pain of heartbreak and unrequited love. Some of the songs they sang included “Save Room” by John Legend, “Thinkin Bout You” by Frank Ocean, “If I Ain’t Got You” by Alicia Keys, “Sign Your Name” by Terence Trent D’Arby and “Is She Really Going Out With Him” by Joe Jackson. In one of their songs, the Thirteen picked a girl from the audience to sing to. Although there is always some embarrassment that comes from being picked out of a crowd, I was still bummed that I was not serenaded by the beautiful Thirteen. I am sure all the other girls in the room were sharing that same feeling of jealousy towards the lucky girl pulled from the audience. All the songs performed were great, but I think it is safe to say that the crowd favorite was the song “Enormous Penis” by DaVinci’s Notebook. The audience broke out into laughter as soon as the Thirteen dropped the “p-word.” It was hilarious, but how old are we again?
Finally, about halfway into the show Cupid made his grand entrance. Dressed in only a cloth diaper with a pair of wings, the brave first-year pranced around the room and instantly stole the hearts of the crowd. Not only was cupid shooting his bow and arrow, but he was also generously throwing bite-sized chocolates out into the audience. The unforgettable performance by Cupid and the Colgate Thirteen was certainly the perfect way to spark the Valentine’s Day spirit.
