This week the women’s hockey team played two more tough match-ups against Quinnipiac Bobcats  and Princeton Tigers, falling to both teams to end the weekend with two losses.

In the first period against the nationally-ranked Bobcats, the Raiders held the shot advantage at 11-10 and had a close power play opportunity with four minutes remaining, but Quinnipiac managed to secure a 1-0 lead

going into the middle frame.

Seven minutes into the second period Quinnipiac first-year Emma Woods fired a shot past junior goalie Brittney Brooks to bring the score to 2-0. Not long afterwards the Bobcats scored again to gain a 3-0 lead. Despite a few strong shots on net by junior forward Miriam Drubel, Colgate was not able to get on the scoreboard.

After an interference call on Quinnipiac at the end of the second period, Colgate headed into the final period on a power play. Senior forward Megan Wickens fired a shot and hit the post but did not manage to score. About five minutes later, the Bobcats scored their fourth goal and in the remainder of the period they racked up two more to end the game with a score of 6-0. The Raiders unfortunately were not able to convert any of their five man-up opportunities, while Quinnipiac converted two of their four.

Despite the lopsided scoreboard, however, the Raiders defense was strong. With a joint effort in goal, Brooks finished the night with 13 saves while junior Susan Allen came in halfway through the second period and pitched in with 11 saves.

The very next day, the Raiders headed to Princeton to face the Tigers. After a scoreless first period, Colgate was first on the scoreboard when senior forward Jocelyn Simpson ripped a shot into the top corner, giving the Raiders a 1-0 lead. Senior forward Rachel Walsh assisted Simpson’s goal off a beautiful pass midway through the second period. For the remainder of the period, the Raiders held onto their lead and headed into the last period with a lead.

Early in the final frame, the Tigers tied up the score  shooting just past goalie Allen who drew the start in goal. Just 1:21 later, the Tigers found the back of the net again to give put the Tigers in the lead up 2-1.

Drubel, however, brought the game back to a tie at the 6:08 mark when she saw an opening and made her team-leading fourth goal of the season. Just two minutes later,  however, the Tigers regained a 3-2 lead.

Attempting to get back in the game, the Raiders were awarded a power play after a Princeton tripping call, but were unable to connect despite a few close opportunities. Princeton scored three more goals in the final 10 minutes of play, with two coming on a Raiders empty net, to take home a 6-2 victory.

This coming weekend the Raiders return home to Starr Rink to host Union on Friday, November 8 at 7 p.m. and then Rensselaer on Saturday, November 9 at 4 p.m.
