The Resolutions Perform at the Barge
The normally calm and cozy Barge Canal was quite lively on Friday, November 18, and packed to the gills with people waiting to see Colgate’s very own Resolutions. The co-ed a cappella group has done performances in this favorite town locale for quite a while now, and for good reason. Although a small group, the Resos lit up the stage of the Barge while people listened, drank coffee and clearly had a great time. The members of
the group were visibly enjoying putting on the show. From their opener of a stunning version of Adele’s “Someone Like You” with sophomore soloist Gabby Ambrosio, to their closing song of a Coldplay medley of “The Scientist” and “Fix You” with junior soloist Evan Weissblum, the Resos put on a great night of a cappella music. What makes the Resos so fun to watch is their energy and music selection. Switching from upbeat
songs to slower tunes, from ones every audience member knew to ones very few had heard before, they had an eclectic and versatile set list. Their performance included a cover of 90s Bermuda pop artist Heather Nova’s “London Rain” (try to get more obscure than that), Coldplay’s brand new song “Paradise” and Red Hot Chili Pepper’s “Soul to Squeeze,” among others. That is quite the impressive mix. All of the soloists were
also fantastic, with lots of energy and power. Just by watching them you knew all the members have tons of fun in the group and the audience caught their energy, too. Despite the small size of the Barge, the Resos had quite an audience. Every seat in the Barge was full, along with plenty of people standing but happy to get a spot to watch the show. People in the street even came in just to listen to them. But the Resos didn’t just sing. They busted out some dance moves on a few songs. It was almost contagious; with songs performances such as the Phish song “Bouncin’ Around the Room” (which, yes, included actual bouncing up and down at one point) that made you want to start dancing with them. The performance was all too short at about an hour long, though the Resos graciously indulged the audience with their Coldplay medley as an encore. The small group led by their president, senior Britty Buonocore and their music director, senior Kevin Blank, is a force to be reckoned with when it comes to turning any type of song into a cappella awesomeness. They are not to be missed.
