Quality of Food: 22 Utica Street is primarily a coffee shop that serves food, and if you’re a Parkside fan then you will enjoy this place. I recently visited and ordered a grilled wrap that had marinated chicken, artichokes, mozzarella cheese, and avocado with a light vinaigrette (the tomato that was supposedly included in this sandwich was missing, but it didn’t need it) that was flavorful and just the right size. The frozen yogurt is tasty and comes with a variety of toppings, but unfortunately only vanilla yogurt is available. The problem with 22 Utica Street is that it’s suffering an identity crisis. Is it an ice cream shop? A deli? A coffee place? No one seems to know, and neither do they.
Décor: 22 Utica Street is actually a very nice space. An open floor plan, goldenrod yellow walls, and comfy couches are some of the decorative hallmarks of the Café. There is a kind of psychedelic wall mural to your right, with all kinds of trees, a few scattered coffee beans, and a flying pig tattoo with a “mom” tattoo on its bacon. A few large tables make the space amenable to students who want to do work, but I have yet to learn of anyone to take advantage of this opportunity.
Service: Slow when it’s busy, quicker when it’s not. Sandwiches could take a while, but chances are you’re going to 22 Utica Street for coffee or a smoothie, which is a bit faster.
