After starting its season a perfect 5-0, the women’s basketball team has dropped two straight. Colgate lost to Central Connecticut by a score of 61-43 on Saturday, and then lost to Bryant University 82-74 on Tuesday. Both games were at home.

After winning their first five games of the year, the Raiders tied their mark for wins from last season. After finishing 5-25 in 2008-2009, this year’s early success demonstrated a dramatic turnaround for Colgate.

Saturday’s loss to Central Connecticut was far closer than the final score suggested. The Raiders played a tight first half at Cotterell Court, walking into the locker room down 27-25 at the break. In the second half, the Raiders shooting was ice cold. Shooting only 3-29 from the field, the Raiders posted only 18 points after halftime. Central Connecticut improved to 2-3 with the win.

The Raider’s struggles continued on Tuesday as Colgate hosted Bryant University at Cotterell Court. Colgate had four players who scored in the double figures, but they were unable to overcome Bryant’s offense in the second half. After beating Colgate, the Bulldogs improved to 2-4 this season.

The Raiders will have a chance to rebound this week, travelling to Ithaca to take on Cornell. The Big Red are 3-3 so far this season, but they have not played any league games thus far.
