During January and February, the sisters of Kappa Alpha Theta benefitted the Colgate and Hamilton communities in numerous ways. Because of their commitment to more than six significant philanthropies, Kappa Alpha Theta has won Konosioni’s Campus Life Award for February.

Theta’s series of projects began during the holiday season, when the chapter recognized Colgate’s Cruiser drivers with gifts and personalized thank-you cards. They continued to spread holiday cheer by collecting and delivering over $500 worth of food and gift certificates to needy families in the Hamilton area. Upon their return to campus, Theta discovered that they had placed second in the Panhellenic Council’s feminine products drive. Products from this drive went to local women who cannot afford such items. February kicked off with a blood drive at the Hamilton Baptist Church, and continued with Theta’s implementation of the Dove Campaign for Positive Body Image, which sought to promote positive body image among Colgate women, particularly first-year and sophomore students. February ended with a bake sale whose proceeds were donated to Court Appointed Special Advocates (CASA), Kappa Alpha Theta’s national philanthropy. CASA works towards combating child abuse. Theta is currently collaborating with Gamma Phi Beta on a formal dress drive.

Last fall, Konosioni Senior Honor Society reinstituted the Campus Life Award, and has recognized groups such as the Colgate Thirteen and Breast Cancer Awareness Coalition. Any campus student group is eligible for this award, and nominations are accepted from all members of the Colgate community. Winners have demonstrated a commitment to community service and the betterment of campus life. Applications for the March award are available in the Center for Leadership and Student Involvement.
