Few Suprises Early On in IM Basketball

Intramural basketball finally arrived last Tuesday and the season got underway with numerous exciting, yet predictable, results.

There have been no surprises in League A to this point, with both Delta Upsilon (DU) and Brothers A have starting the season at 2-0.

DU faced a tough Just Four Fit team in its season-opener on November 8, pulling out a 47-39 victory over the team comprised of former football players. The fraternity extended its winning streak to two games with an easy 70-40 win over Cobra Chi A last Tuesday.

Brothers A have been just as dominant against its League A competition, running over Beta Theta Pi, 46-33 and Theta Chi, 56-31, en route to a 2-0 start.

Third place in League A is occupied by both Theta Chi and Just Four Fit, both of whom sit at 1-1 after respective wins over Phi Kappa Tau (Phi Tau) and Beta. The Theta Chi victory was a particularly exciting game, with Phi Tau having a game-winning three-point attempt rim out as time expired.

Cobra Chi A (0-1), Phi Tau (0-1) and Beta (0-2) round out the League A standings.

The only Greek team in League B, Phi Delta Theta (Phi Delt), is also the only 2-0 team in the league after the first three nights of play. After a season-opening victory over Donkey Ranch, Phi Delt notched a win against the Hard Hats in the best game of the intramural season to this point. The Hard Hats erased a 39-33 deficit with one minute left in regulation to send the game into overtime, but ultimately fell to excellent Phi Delt defense by a score of 47-46.

The LNA Pound R’s defeated Brother 2 Brother to move into second place in the league after the first week of action. In third place are the Hard Hats, who have a 1-1 record after a 60-43 victory over the defending Division-II Champion Great Colgate Ballers last week.

The rest of the League B standings are: DU B (0-0), Donkey Ranch (0-1), Great Colgate Ballers (0-1) and Brother 2 Brother (0-1).

Athleticism and experience have shaped the top of the standings in League C after the first 10 days of competition.$11.49, the Division-I Four-On-Four Flag Football Champions, have opened its first basketball season at Colgate with a 2-0 record. The first-years defeated Jewce Is Loose by a score of 51-32 and The Dave Reiners, 45-43, to move to the top of the League C standings.

While $11.49 has demonstrated athleticism, Old School showed the power of experience in a season-opening 47-43 win over the Diabeatings. The staff/faculty-laden team used physical play and deadly three-point shooting to knock off its senior opponents.

After a 46-42 victory over the Townhausers, the Blazers sit tied for second-place in League C at 1-0.The Townhausers are in fourth place after avenging their season-opening loss with a 47-21 rout of an ice-cold Diabeatings squad.

League C’s standings are rounded out by The Dave Reiners (0-1), Jewce Is Loose (0-1) and the Diabeatings (0-2).

Jason leads the relatively idle League D, which saw only one game take place in the first week-and-a-half of competition.A 49-24 beat-down of a weakened Yo Mets squad propelled Jason to the top of the league at 1-0.

Link 148, Cobra Chi B and the Spartans all finally took the court at the end of this week, looking to earn a spot at the top of the League D standings to start the season.

Club Basketball stands at first place in the Women’s League after a 37-31 victory over Women’s Lax last week, whileJust Forfeit and Women’s Soccer remained idle in the first week of intramural basketball.

Basketball will take a break along with the rest of Colgate next week for Thanksgiving but will return for a few more weeks of action before winter break.
