Theta Chi Wins IM Volleyball Title…Again

Volleyball “This is the fourth year in a row that Theta Chi has won the volleyball Championship,” junior Todd Ruderman said, “making us an IM sports dynasty.” If you have not kept track of the state of the Colgate intramural volleyball program during the last four years, this statement sums up the result of the last four seasons of IM volleyball at Huntington Gymnasium. Although the team graduated many talented senior players from last year’s championship team, Theta Chi A still pulled out a victory in this week’s Division I Intramural Volleyball Championship. The top four seeds, all from League A, advanced to Monday night’s Division I semifinals. In the round of four, both staff/faculty teams fell as Theta Chi and the Yo Mets A knocked off the Lolligaggers and the Ringers, respectively, each by scores of 2-1.The Theta Chi A and Yo Mets A victories created a championship match-up between two teams that are no strangers to intramural championships this year. Despite a gritty effort, the third-seeded Yo Mets A did not have enough volleyball experience to scare top-seeded Theta Chi A, giving the fraternity its fourth consecutive volleyball championship by a 2-0 margin. In the Division II Tournament, the team that dominated League C all season, Bishop Don West, faced few threats in securing its first-ever intramural championship. After League B powerhouses Delta Kappa Epsilon and the Bouncers were knocked out in the first round of competition, Bishop Don West and Theta Chi B defeated Phi Delta Theta B and the Yo Mets B, respectively, by a combined score of 4-0.Despite the success of it’s A team, Theta Chi B could do little to counter the first-year fury of Bishop Don West. The young squad eliminated Theta Chi, 2-1, to capture the Division II volleyball crown.
