IM Hoops and BBall Get Underway

BasketballThe week before Thanksgiving Break saw the tightening up of a number of league races in intramural basketball. America Yeah and Sigma Chi took control of League A, entering this week’s play at 2-0 apiece. On November 18, America Yeah had an easy time of it against Beta Theta Pi (Beta) A, while Sigma Chi A knocked off Staff Infection the night before.Delta Kappa Epsilon (DKE) remained idle in the last week of action, maintaining third place in the league at 1-1, while Beta A and Staff Infection each stand at 0-2.In League B, there are no early-season surprises, as the Brothers lead the pack at 2-0. The Brothers defeated Sigma Chi B 60-45 before break, giving the team a half-game lead over the Running Suckers and Jewce is Loose, after the two squads defeated Theta Chi and Phi Delta Theta (Phi Delt), respectively, to move to 1-0 on the season.After its loss, Sigma Chi B stood at 1-1 coming into this week’s play, holding a half-game lead over a 1-2 Theta Chi squad. Phi Delt is currently rounding out the league at 0-3.In League C, the Great Colgate Ballers continued their supremacy before break by moving to 3-0 with a victory over the Yo Mets. Close behind the Ballers are Curtis and Beta B at 2-1 each, after respective victories over the Butter Nuts and the Squadron of Doom.After its loss the Yo Mets stand at 1-1 in League C, 1.5 games above the 0-3 Squadron of Doom prior to this week’s results.In one of the best games of the week, Sigma Chi C pulled off an upset over the previously undefeated KSA to force a first-place tie in League D between the two 2-1 teams.Main Moon won for the first time this season over a previously undefeated Jason & The Johnsons team to put the two squads at 1-1, tied for third in the league. The Regulators sit at the bottom of League D at 0-2.

Ice HockeyPrior to Thanksgiving Break, the top tier intramural hockey teams in both leagues further separated themselves from the bottom teams.In League A, The Whalers moved to 3-0 on the season with an 8-2 triumph over a previously undefeated Sigma Chi B squad, taking first place in the league with six points.Sigma Chi A was victorious by forfeit over DKE, moving to second in the league with a 2-1 record. Beta was likewise victorious in the league, defeating Delta Upsilon (DU) 6-2 to garner its first two points of the season.After its victory, Beta moved into a third place tie with Theta Chi and Sigma Chi B at two points apiece, while DKE and DU round out the league with zero points.In League B, the Panty Raiders moved to 4-0 on the season with an easy 7-3 victory over Team 917. Closely behind the Panty Raiders are the Frozen Ovaries, who moved to 3-0 and closed to a two-point deficit behind the top League B team after a forfeit victory over the Pep Band.Phi Delt won for the second time this hockey season before break, defeating the Yo Mets, 11-3, and moving into third in the league with four points. The Yo Mets sit in fourth position with two points, while Team 917 and the Pep Band are still stuck with zero points.

With Winter Break approaching and a variety of intramural contests finishing up, the Intramural All-Sports Standings are taking shape.Every year the Recreational Sports Office recognizes the best intramural sports squad in all intramural contests through the year. Teams receive a certain number of points per sport, depending on where they place in a given season. At the end of the school year, the winning squad is immortalized on a plaque outside of Huntington Gymnasium.Upon the completion of flag football, trap shooting, four-on-four flag football, soccer and ultimate Frisbee, the standings are as follows: Yo Mets, 130; Theta Chi, 125; Phi Delt, 107; Panty Raiders, 87; Sigma Chi, 81; Regulators, 81; Beta, 71; Phi Kappa Tau, 63; DU, 62; Staff Infection, 59; West Hall, 55; DKE, 40; Brothers, 35.With basketball, volleyball and softball still left to take place in the spring semester, as well as a variety of other intramural events, the All-Sports Championship is still wide open.
