The intramural basketball season tipped off at Colgate last Wednesday with each of the five leagues beginning regular season action.

In League A, perennial intramural heavyweights Sigma Chi A and America Yeah took possession of first place in the league with wins over Delta Kappa Epsilon (DKE) and Phi Kappa Tau (Phi Tau), respectively. Beta Theta Pi (Beta) A and Staff Infection were idle for the week and remained in a tie for third place.

The only contest to take place in League B was a blowout victory by Theta Chi over Phi Delta Theta (Phi Delt). With the win, Theta Chi took a half-game lead in the league over Sigma Chi B, the Brothers and the Running Suckers, none of whom played a game last week.

League C saw the emergence of Curtis and the Great Colgate Ballers to the top of the early-season standings. Curtis moved past the Squadron of Doom in a tight contest while the Great Colgate Ballers had an easy go of it against Beta B. The other League C teams, Yo Mets and the Butter Nuts, started their season this week.

The KSA emerged as the early contender for the League D crown last week with a sizeable victory over the Regulators. Tied for first with KSA is Jason & The Johnsons, which won its first game via forfeit against Sigma Chi C. Andy Levin sits in the middle of the league standings after an idle week.

The only game in the Women’s League last week saw the early season favorite Club soundly defeat Girl’s Lax.

Ice Hockey

The intramural ice hockey season likewise had its first face-off last week, with the season starting last Thursday at Starr Rink.

After one week of play, Sigma Chi controls the top of the standings in League A, with Sigma Chi A and B gaining two points each after defeats of Delta Upsilon and DKE, respectively, by forfeit.

Also tied for first in the league after the first set of games is The Whalers. As the only independent team in the league, The Whalers pulled off a white-knuckl win against Theta Chi by a 4-3 margin on Sunday.

League B is the case of the haves and the have-nots after the first week of play. Yo Mets and the Panty Raiders solidified their positions as preseason favorites in the league. The two squads embarrassed the Pep Band and Phi Delt, respectively, by a combined 20-3 margin.

Ultimate Frisbee

The Recreational Sports Office would also like to congratulate Bishop Don West for winning this year’s intramural Ultimate Frisbee Tournament.

Taking place over the last month, teams competed in a single-elimination tournament on Sunday afternoons in an attempt to capture the ultimate crown, with a field of eight teams vying for the title.

After cruising through the first round, Bishop Don West handedly defeated Phi Delt, 13-5, and Beta, 13-7, to capture its first intramural championship.
