Golf Hosts Annual Colgate Invitational

This past weekend the men’s golf team hosted the annual Colgate Invitational at the renowned Sevens Oaks Golf Course. As expected, the course designed by Robert Trent Jones lived up to expectations given that only two golfers in the field were capable of posting a score under par during all three rounds of action.

When it was all said and done, the Raiders finished tied for fourth place with Lafayette College in a field of 14 teams. The fourth-place finish was in large part due to the performances of junior captains Chris Wilson and Ryan Allison.

Wilson claimed a fifth-place individual finish for the Raiders, posting scores of 75, 75 and 74. This tournament marked the third top five individual finish in the Wilson’s career. Additionally, Wilson finished second in the field with 11 birdies for the weekend, while scoring a combined eight-under on par-5s.

“Chris has played great since our first day of practice. He was consistent all week, even with a couple of tough holes. He really took advantage of the par-5s and stuck to his game plan all weekend,” Coach Keith Tyburski said.

Allison also provided big contributions to the teams’ share of fourth place, as he was able to shoot 73, 72 and 81. Allison’s final round 81 was certainly not indicative of his overall performance in the tournament, as the junior finished second in the tournament field with 36 pars and shot five-under on the par-5s for the weekend. Allison finished tied for seventh place despite struggling on the closing nine holes during Sunday’s round.

“We want to contend and win a tournament this fall. We definitely have the talent to accomplish this realistic goal,” Allison said regarding goals for

the season.

“We got a lot of rust out of our system over the weekend. Everyone on the team has many positives to take into the season. I played well in my first two rounds but far from my best in the last,” said the junior captain.

The team hopes to progress and score even better in their upcoming tournament, the Doc Gimmler Invitational, hosted by St. Johns University in Farmingdale, New York. Expect to see the four juniors on the roster, Ryan Allison, Ian Lynch, Henry Wesson and Chris Wilson do big things for the team in the coming weeks against Patriot League opponents.
